More questions?

  • We're broke. Can you help us raise the money?

Absolutely. Almost every group we work with comes to us with budgetary issues, and we’re here to help. Once you decide you want to do a project with us, our financial consultant will meet with you to come up with a payment plan and a fundraising strategy that fits your group’s needs and your school’s requirements.

  • Do you offer any discounts?

While there can be some small discounts for first time clients, or for production clients buying other services for the first time, we aim to give you a price you can work with and a fundraising plan so you won’t need it.

  • Do you offer payment plans?

Yes! Paying up front is an option, but by no means a requirement. We have a set payment plan for our Just Sing and a la carte packages, or we can customize a payment plan based on your school’s regulations, or to fit the combination of sources you are paying from.

  • Do you charge by the hour or by song?

Well, the answer is both! Many first time clients like to use our Just Sing! packages, which are flat rated packages that cover the costs of recording a 4, 6, or 12 song album. Those are a bit higher up front, but prevent any surprise costs or additional payments down the road. If you’ve worked with us before or you know exactly what you want, we typically bill by the hour to make sure you are only paying for exactly what work went into your project. Hourly rates range from $45-$85 an hour, with an average of $65.

  • If I do hourly, how long does it take to record?

Great question! Pretty much every group is different, but to help give you an idea of price before you start, we base our estimates on the average amount of hours from the hundreds of projects we’ve worked on. We’ve seen that recording takes about 8 hours, editing about 6, and mixing around 4. Once you work with us on at least one track, we use your own averages to estimate for future projects and payments!

  • How much does distribution cost?

All digital distribution on any project you do with us is 100% free. We use a service called Loudr, where you create a free account and upload your files for licensing and distribution. Loudr doesn’t charge anything to make or own the account, and they are the ones who will put your music in places like iTunes and Spotify. When someone listens or buys your album, Loudr will automatically take the fees for licensing and distribution out of the money you make, and deposit the rest into your Loudr bank account, which you can withdraw from at any time. Physical distribution is handled through Discmakers, and there are costs associated with making physical copies.

  • Do I have to pay for travel?

If you aren’t in a package, and are not based near our team in Rochester or Boston, you will most likely need to pay travel costs. Costs typically include gas, lodging, and meals for the time our engineers spend with you. If they will only be with you for one day and can drive home afterwards, you won’t be charged for lodging. Often times we can find discounts or you can offer to host or book travel yourselves to save this costs. If you don’t want to think about it at all, all travel costs are included in our Just Sing! production packages.

“When I thought we couldn't [raise the money], and we were at $10,000 and we weren't going to hit our goal in 9 days, Dave said 'Yes you can,' and so we did.”
