Arranger & Consultant
Shams Ahmed is a masterful arranger, music director, and educator from Cherry Hill, NJ. He is a graduate of Northeastern University in Boston, MA, where he directed SoJamX and 2013 ICCA Champions, The Nor’easters while double majoring in Finance and Mandarin. During his tenure, the group picked up several compilation placements and CARA awards, and Shams earned more arranging awards than any other collegiate arranger. While directing and singing with the Nor’easters, Shams also founded the all-female group, Pitch, Please!. His work for both groups has consistently been chosen for placements on BOCA, Voices Only, and Sing! and have garnered several CARA nominations and wins.
Additionally, Shams has delved into the world of musical theater, serving as Music Director of productions of RENT, A Tale of Two Cities, and Spring Awakening. Most recently, he was featured alongside The Nor’easters in Season 1 of POP TV’s reality docu-series, Sing It On, and can be seen coaching groups on Season 2. In the summer, he serves as a director and a teacher of musicianship and arranging at A Cappella Academy, a Los Angeles-based summer camp founded by Pentatonix’s Avi Kaplan. He is currently living in Boston, but continues to serve as a regular judge at ICCA, ICHSA, and CASA events all over the country, while arranging music, coaching groups, and overseeing projects within the a cappella world.
